Rice Lake, Canada

Welcome to Rice Lake. Rice Lake is famous both for being a recreational lake, and a historic lake. Indians inhabited the area about 2000 years ago, and in the last centuries it was farmed by Iroquoian Indian farmers and then the wild rice was harvested by the Mississauga Ojibwe (Anishinabe). It was one of the areas to which settlers came, and then later developed into a tourist area. From the days of steamboats to modern cruisers travelling the Trent Severn Waterway which passes through it, Rice Lake occupies a strategic position in the recreational life of Ontario,Canada.
